A stone carving course for beginners with no previous experience necessary.
Prompt 10am start, students can arrive 30 minutes early for set up, a quick cuppa and chat to the course instructor Rhys.
Tea, coffee and biscuits provided, recommended to bring a packed lunch.
Rhys will give a brief health and safety talk, as well as basics on stone carving.
Beginners will learn the uses of the equipment provided, and how to hold a chisel and dummy hammer. Then they will learn techniques in how to chase a line, rough out and finish off their own Yorkshire Rose relief carving.
Set in the parlour at Pealie’s Barn, each student will be supplied with their own piece of Maltese limestone to work on and take home alongside the stencil and carbon paper. Provided for use per student will be brushes, 600g dummy hammer, rifler, sandpaper, and chisels: point, bullnose and two…

Provided for use per student will be brushes, 600g dummy hammer, rifler, sandpaper, and chisels: point, bullnose and two flat chisels. Students will draw the rose with a rose stencil and carbon paper. Safety goggles are provided. Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 10 days before the course starts. Minimum of 2 students booked required for the course to proceed.
